Announcing Our Seed Funding Round
I am thrilled to announce today that we have raised a $3.7 Million seed round led by Sofinnova Partners and Material Impact!
At Werewool, our mission is to make the fashion and textile industry compatible with nature.
We harness nature’s blueprints for function and color to create regenerative fibers that plug and play in today’s fashion industry. Our engineered microbes brew designer proteins that give performance and color to textile fibers without plastics and water pollution.
Our team started as a Biodesign project back in 2018 at the Fashion Institute of Technology – where our eyes were opened to nature’s genius blueprints for all of the color and functionality that currently makes the textile and fashion industry one of the largest polluters of this planet.
Since then, we have been busy.
We developed a patent-pending platform technology that has enabled the creation of our first lab prototype fibers with inherent color and fluorescence. Our team has moved out of Columbia University and built out a lab in Downstate University’s Tech @ 710 Incubator space, and grown our research team. We launched as a company with a grant from the H&M Foundation’s Global Change Award and have received recognition and support from the Ray C. Andersons Ray of Hope Prize, The Biomimicry Institute, Conservation X Labs Microfiber Innovation Challenge, and most recently by the Elle x Polestar Design Towards Zero Award.
This round of funding will enable us to continue to grow our team with key leadership roles, expand our in-house manufacturing capabilities, and bring you MVP fibers in product form in the next 12-15 months.
We cannot thank our amazing team, incredible community, and our new investors enough for the support that we have received to get to this stage in our development. Now it’s time to put our heads down and get to work!
